Playgrounds of Power examines how gendered exclusions take shape within the Indian digital gaming sector. While inequity across workplaces is well documented, the specific dynamics of game-making remain underexplored even as the field grows rapidly.
The report traces participation across key systems. It looks at entry pathways such as access to play, education, training and hiring, and moves into studio environments where authority, roles and everyday interactions shape who advances and who is held back. It also examines the forms of labour that sustain teams but often remain unrecognised. Situating these experiences within broader forces such as policy, organisational norms and resource flows, the report argues that change cannot be isolated. It must move across systems.
The report aims to document the experiences of women and gender-diverse practitioners, while offering studios and ecosystem actors a clearer view of the patterns shaping their contexts.
